Our Nominating Committee 

  

Detailed description of duties and responsibilities of Nominating committee: 

  

•         The nominating committee is made up of active members of the Church, including both women and men giving fair representation to persons of all ages, racial ethnic members and persons with disabilities. Total of 8-members including the pastor. 

•         Two members of the committee shall be active elders designated by the session, one of which shall chair the committee. 

•         At least one member shall be designated by the board of deacons. 

•         At least four members approved by the congregation(excluding  active session members & deacons). 

•         The pastor shall be a member of this committee serving ex officio and without a vote. 

•         The nominating committee is responsible for selecting: Elders, Deacons and Auditors. 

•         The officers names should be in place before the end of October(in time for the congregational meeting). 

•         When selecting members to fill positions of Elders or Deacons they should be active Church members in good standing of Calvin Presbyterian Church.  The following is a list of suggested criteria and is understood that people who do not meet all the recommendations might also be good church officers 

  

CHURCH INVOLVEMENT: 

Someone who has been a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church for at least one year. 

Someone who has regular attendance at public  worship. 

Someone who actively participates in church activities. 

Someone who has held office and/or served on committees. 

Someone who has shown commitment to the church and its mission. 

Someone with an understanding of or a willingness to learn about Presbyterian policy. 

  

CHRISTIAN LIVING: 

Someone who shows grace and compassion in common life. 

Someone who shows maturity and effectiveness in the community and in the World. 

  

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

Someone who is cooperative. 

Someone who is willing to learn. 

Someone who has the ability to follow through on assignments. 

Someone who is open to new ideas. 

Someone who shows maturity of judgment. 

Someone who has the confidence to express their own ideas. 

Someone who is willing to listen. 

  

•         When submitting names for consideration, we ask that you study the above list carefully, read the section from the book of order and then pray for those whose names you wish to submit for these important roles as part of the team of leaders for our congregation. 

  

ELDERS 

Governmental Responsibilities 

Elders are chosen by the people. Together with ministers of the Word and Sacrament, they exercise leadership, government, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a particular  church as well as the church-at-large, including ecumenical relationships. They shall serve faithfully as members of the session. (G-10.0102.) When elected commissioners to higher governing bodies, elders participate and vote with the same authority as ministers of the Word and Sacrament, and they are eligible for any office. 

Gifts and Requirements 

Elders should be persons of faith, dedication, and good judgment.  Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within the church and in the World. (G-6.0106.) 

Specific Responsibilities 

It is the duty of elders, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation committed to their charge, etc. 

  

DEACONS 

Responsibilities 

It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.  They shall assume such other duties as may be delegated to them from time to time by the session. 

Meeting 

The board shall meet regularly, or upon the call of its moderator, or when directed to meet by the session, but it shall meet at least quarterly. The board shall determine its own quorum.
